B̶l̶a̶c̶k̶ ̶R̶a̶s̶p̶b̶e̶r̶r̶i̶e̶s̶ Wineberries Redux

Update (7/23/2015): What we thought were raspberries turned out to be wineberries. Who knew?

Original PostLast year, we posted about foraging for wild black raspberries wineberries (and putting them in cider). It’s a summertime tradition I engage in every year and this past weekend, the berries just started ripening.

It’s still early in the (brief) black raspberry wineberry season, so next weekend will be my big haul. I was able to find a few gems (like the one pictured above), but most weren’t ready for prime-time yet. It’s tricky; if the bush is in direct sunlight, the berries dry out quickly, but If it’s too shady, they never fully ripen. I’ve got one secret spot that gets a perfect light/shade balance and produces beautiful, plump specimens. I guard this spot with my life.

Got big plans for these babies. BIG.

By the way: did you hear Bloom County’s coming back?
